The all-natural herbal wound salve for horses and livestock
since 1883
This amazing all- natural wound ointment has been treating horses and livestock for over a hundred and twenty five years. In 1883, Rebekah Weaver harvested local herbs that were known to promote healing and made the first batches of what is now known as "The Salve". The Salve, commonly referred to as "the green stuff" was used by foundry workers in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania to soothe burns, draw out metal splinters and prevent infections. Word quickly spread to the local Amish community about the effectiveness of this ointment and by the turn of the century farmers began applying The Salve to horses and livestock. The Salve was commonly used for general wound care to promote healing, as a hoof conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. The Salve became popular for it's effectiveness in drawing out imbedded objects such as wood and metal splinters. Since then, The Salve has been a household name in South Eastern Pennsylvania. To this day, The Salve continues to be hand made by Rebekah Weavers fifth and sixth generation descendants according to the guarded family recipe. Each September, the family handpicks the herbs, processes and packages The Salve. The original wrought iron utensils still hang on the wall of the shop. Our family is proud to continue the tradition of healing and is confident that The Salve will become a staple product in the treatment and care of your horses and livestock.
