Our History

This amazing, all-natural wound ointment has been treating horses and livestock for more than 125 years.

In 1883, Rebecca Weaver harvested local herbs known for their healing properties and made the first batches of what is now known as “The Salve.”

Commonly referred to as “the green stuff,” The Salve was used by foundry workers in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, to soothe burns, draw out metal splinters, and help prevent infection. Word quickly spread throughout the local community about the effectiveness of this unique ointment, and by the turn of the century, farmers had begun using The Salve on their horses and livestock.

The Salve became valued for its many uses, including general wound care, soothing burns and sores, drawing out infection and imbedded objects and helping to prevent and eliminate proud flesh. It was also used as a hoof conditioner to help prevent drying and cracking.
